Frontier Metal Processing is one of a handful of companies in the world that successfully produce Complete Metal jacketed bullets.

In the age of health awareness and pollution , the problem of exposure to lead vapour has become a much- discussed subject in the shooting sports. Lead poisoning is a very real danger and it can cause serious health problems, including brain and kidney damage. Other symptoms of lead poisoning are often noticed but not readily diagnosed for what they are, as shooters never think about informing their GP's of excessive exposure to lead vapour.

Results of studies in the USA confirmed that 89% of shooters tested , exceeded the permissible limit for occupational exposure to lead.

As outdoor shooting poses a much lower risk of being overexposed to lead vapour, although education in this regard is obviously needed and the simple rule of washing one's hands after working with lead, will minimize the risk. Indoor ranges however is a different scenario and the problem of lead vapours is real. Special precautions are also needed with the home  casting of bullets.

The jackets of traditional metal jacket bullets only cover part of the bullet - the base of the lead bullet core is still exposed to hot gasses, causing the formation of lead vapour as the ammunition is fired. Complete Metal Jacket bullets, also marketed as "'lead safe bullets" have no exposed lead surfaces to come into contact with hot propellent gases. CMJ's are covered with pure electrolytic copper jackets that cover the entire surface of the bullets. Over the years Frontier have developed their own, unique and very successful plating process with the help of the company that provides most of the company's chemicals to ensure maximum efficiency and ultimate core bonding.

CMJ's have other advantages as well as the prevention of barrel fouling and better visibility during shooting, due to elimination of smoke caused by bullet lube. A very important factor is costing - the manufacturing process of CMJ's as opposed to FMJ's allow much better pricing and especially in a sport that requires the firing of hundreds of rounds during a match, or for practice. CMJ's can be offered at very competitive pricing.

160 gr RNFP Bullets

Susan:

Thank you for getting back to me.  I took what data I could find and plotted out a graph.  I went out to the range yesterday and test fired a total of 120 rounds that I had loaded using the chart.  Half of them were your bullets and the other half a 180 gr RNFP from a local supplier.  Both worked just great.  Using my SW40 model 99 and plenty of shot filled bags for support, I managed to place 11 out of 12 of your bullets AT 100 yards into a target all within a 9 inch circle.  Some of the other club members were impressed and will most likely buy your bullets since they are much cheaper than the others at our main supplier.

I am attaching the chart that I made for you to look at.

The  MFS Open by Andrew Ellis (a regular contributor to our web site)

Debrecen Hungary on 9-12 Oct 2008.

It was a fantastic competition, very challenging stages with intricate target arrays and poppers out to 40 meters. 16 stages over two days.

I introduced Freddy to Mr Vince Zoltan the Match Director. We renewed old acquaintances made new friends and met up with our old friend and Polish Journalist Dariusz ( Cze Cze ) Dabrowski.

The last two sanctioned matches on the ROI have been cancelled as they are having some problems with their Government v pistol legislation. The Krakow Open was reduced to a one day match for 2008 so we didn't attend. I really hope it is back to normal next year.

The UK Open.

I had the honour of being Match Director for the first ever Level 3 match in N Ireland.120 entries from around Europe and beyond. Some of the best shooters in the world attended and helped make it a memorable occasion. It was a great chance for local guys to shoot alongside the pros. One guy remarked to me that shooting a match in the same squad as his hero was better than paid tuition.

Freddy got to meet Eric Grauffel and I also had a class with him . I have been shooting IPSC for many years and have read many books and watched a lot of instructional videos but I have to admit Eric was still able to offer tips for improvement. He corrected my grip, draw, reload and stance. Then told me how to improve my pick up, kneeling, weak hand, strong hand, and moving skills. Apparently everything else was ok or maybe he ran out of time.

Seriously it was an enjoyable day and well worth the effort. Everything was taught in a clear easy to understand manner. Unfortunately I couldn't take the class till after the match

I finished 6th in production, 2nd in Senior Production.

Ballymena RPC.

Saturday 10th May was first practical shoot of 2008 at Ballymena RPC. It was fully subscribed with over 60 competitors in Modified, Open, Production and Standard.

Jim Jones won Modified

David Cully won Open

Alex Ellis won Production

David Cumming won Standard.

On Sunday 8th June Freddy and I traveled to Harbour House Clay, Rifle & Pistol Club in Co Kildare ROI.

This was my first taste of IPSC as organised by IPSA, the governing body for practical shooting in The Republic of Ireland.

There were seven very challenging stages and fifty eight competitors in Open, Standard and Production.

I thoroughly enjoyed the warm welcome, friendly banter, good food and the challenge of the stages.

I made a real mess of stage number one but managed to pull back enough to win production Division.

Mick Cowan won Open and Andrew Pedlow won Standard.

The IPSA guys put in a lot of work and put on a first rate match I am looking forward to the next one and highly recommend anyone who has the chance to go along and shoot one.

I have attached a pic of myself (showing my good side) at the match, some pictures of Freddy meeting Mr Tommy O'Brien who owns the range.

Freddy also pictured with John Crawford and Nigel Barrett who were very busy all day doing stats, the guys from Hilltop Shooting Club (black shirts) and also Mr John Fitzgerald (red shirt) and the ROs.

Kells Rifle and Pistol Club held its first 2008 UKPSA Graded Practical Pistol Competition on the 19th April. As well as local Northern Ireland UKPSA members, a group of over twenty traveled over from Great Britain and a similar sized squad of competitors from the Irish Practical Shooting Association ( IPSA ) attended from the Republic of Ireland. With a group of competitors also attending from the Isle of Man, the total number of entries was 70.

The local and visiting range officers, match officials and a small number of competitors shot the “pre match” on the Friday, with the main bulk of the competitors taking part on the Saturday. Many club members donated a lot of their own time to design and build stages and organise everything else that is required to run a proper graded competition.

There were seven courses of fire, three short, three medium and one long course for a total of 105 rounds, not allowing for any mistakes! The match was competed on the indoor and outdoor ranges with the competitors split into three squads, moving around the stages in chronological order. Once everyone had shot the indoor and outdoor stages, the targets and some props were moved around to construct the rest of the stages. Stages 3 and 7 where on the indoor range and stages 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 were positioned on the outdoor range.

The stages consisted of a blend of free style, strong and weak handed only requirements with movement and reloads, combined with a high accuracy requirement. Stage 3 was the biggest, a 32 round field match. The clever positioning of the targets meant that three reloads and a lot of running around were required. Stage 7 was also shot indoors. Here the competitor had to retrieve an empty gun and all ammunition from a box then engage four targets, then run forward and limb a platform and engage another four targets. If you had the magazine capacity and where confident enough you saved time by only retrieving one magazine.

The outdoor stages used a lot of screen barriers that you had to shoot around or underneath and included a mixture of paper and steel pepper poppers. A high level of accuracy was required in this match as there were a lot of long range shots and close targets were either partial or obscured by no shoot targets.
